"Technical simulation is playing an increasingly important role in the development of sensors as the industry competes to develop safe autonomous vehicles. ANSYS has developed simulation solutions specifically for the development of sensors for autonomous vehicles and will extend its market leadership with the acquisition of OPTIS," reports Thomas Zanzinger, Managing Director of ANSYS in DACH. "The addition of OPTIS to the ANSYS portfolio creates a comprehensive sensor solution for the market that includes visible light and infrared light, electromagnetics and acoustics for cameras, radar and lidar."

OPTIS, based in La Farlède, France, develops software that simulates light and human vision. While other manufacturers look at the aesthetics of light, OPTIS' solutions are based on real physics to provide the most accurate simulation possible. OPTIS' product portfolio also includes a photorealistic virtual reality and closed-loop simulation platform that accelerates the development of autonomous vehicles. Using this VR backbone in combination with other ANSYS solutions, the automotive industry can simulate the environment - such as road conditions, weather and one-way streets - in which driverless vehicles operate. OPTIS customers include renowned car manufacturers such as Audi, Ferrari, Ford and Toyota as well as leading companies from other segments such as Airbus, Boeing, GE, L'Oreal and Swarovski.

The combination of OPTIS' physics-based optical simulation solutions with ANSYS' broad and deep portfolio will provide a competitive advantage for both companies' customers and the industry as a whole. "Together, we will deliver comprehensive engineering simulation to a new group of companies and extend simulation to next-generation use cases such as cameras and lidar development for autonomous vehicles.

After all, ANSYS and OPTIS complement each other perfectly - ANSYS has been a leader in the development of simulation solutions for almost half a century and OPTIS also plays a leading technological role," summarizes Thomas Zanzinger. "In summary, the acquisition of OPTIS expands ANSYS' industry-leading multiphysics portfolio to include the increasingly important field of optical simulation."
