Altair takes over Simsolid

Altair has acquired Simsolid. The company works on the basis of detailed CAD assemblies and offers fast, accurate and robust structural simulations that do not require geometry simplification, cleansing or meshing.

The underlying technology is largely based on the work of Dr. Victor Apanovitch, a former professor at the Belarusian National Technical University and co-founder of Simsolid Corporation.

"We believe Simsolid represents a revolutionary technology breakthrough that will have a profound impact on product design," said James R. Scapa, Founder, Chairman and CEO of Altair. "It's incredibly fast, accurate and robust - and we believe it's a game-changing innovation for the industry."

The computational core of Simsolid is a commercial implementation of novel and unpublished mathematical methods based on extensions of external approximation theory.

Simsolid controls the solution accuracy using adaptive multi-path analysis, making it extremely fast and memory-efficient. Large and complex assemblies can even be solved on laptop computers in the shortest possible time.

Dr. Uwe Schramm, Altair's Chief Technical Officer, notes: "We take solution accuracy very seriously. Others have tried to push the interface between CAD and simulation by lowering the mathematical robustness. We think that by rapidly advancing the methods in Simsolid and transferring them to other applications, we can have a real impact on how design is created while meeting our high standards of computational excellence."
