Allianz Arena Munich with lighting solution from Zumtobel

The Zumtobel Group is equipping the prestigious FC Bayern Munich stadium with a new modern lighting solution. Completion is planned for 2019. The company has already been the exclusive lighting partner of FC Bayern Munich since the start of the 2018/19 season.

"As a lighting partner of FC Bayern Munich, we are proud to be able to set the scene for one of the most modern stadiums in the world with our interior and exterior lighting solution. Turning the specifications and ideas of the architect and lighting designer into tangible products was a major challenge, which we were able to meet thanks to our expertise in stadium lighting and as a full-service provider. We are delighted to let the Allianz Arena shine in a new light," says Alfred Felder, CEO Zumtobel Group.

The implementation of the complete solution for the Allianz Arena began with the start of the 2018/19 soccer season. The turnkey lighting solution for the stadium includes the entire project management and project execution, from recording the roof structure to production, delivery, installation and commissioning of the systems.

In a first step, the inner end ring on the roof, with an impressive circumference of 370 meters and an installation height of around 50 meters above the lawn, will be seamlessly fitted with coloured LED strips. In addition, the radial joints in the roof area are fitted with colored LED lines. All LED strips can be illuminated in RGB colors as well as white - when they shine in bright FC Bayern red, the spectator stands merge visually with the newly illuminated roof area. The next stage will be to renew the lighting in the cascading staircases. The initial installation, consisting of luminaires with fluorescent lamps from 2005, will be replaced by a new lighting system with energy-efficient LED luminaires.

In the third construction phase, which is planned for 2020, the "balloon lights" on the esplanade outside the stadium will be replaced. The new customized lighting solution is being developed in close collaboration with all project partners.

"We are delighted to have found a renowned lighting partner in the Zumtobel Group. The Zumtobel Group is contributing its entire expertise and decades of experience and is providing us not only with an excellent lighting solution but also with the complete service we wanted," says Managing Director Jürgen Muth, Allianz Arena München Stadion.

The new lighting concept combines harmoniously with the design language of the building in the crater-like interior of the arena and emphasizes its architecture with effective coloured lighting. The architectural masterpiece was designed by the renowned Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron.

"With around 3.5 million visitors a year, the Allianz Arena has been both a soccer temple and an event location since it opened in spring 2005. With the new large-scale effect lighting, we are bringing an additional emotional component into play for visitors," says FC Bayern Munich Marketing Director Andreas Jung.
