5G-ACIA initiative grows rapidly
The global 5G Alliance for Connected Industries and Automation (5G-ACIA) initiative, which was founded at ZVEI in early 2018, is growing rapidly. Eight new members have joined since April. The initiative brings together representatives from the traditional automation and manufacturing industry as well as leading organizations from the ICT industry.
The new members, which complement the automation and manufacturing industry, include ABB, Audi, GHMT and MC Technologies. With Qualcomm and Rohde & Schwarz, the initiative is also growing to include two companies from the ICT industry. The Korea Electronics Technology Institute (KETI) and the Technology Center for Computer Science and Information Technology (TZI) at the University of Bremen will strengthen the scientific sector.
"With now 34 members, a very good basis has been created to drive further expansion and establish the 5G-ACIA as the world's most important forum for the topic of 5G in the context of Industry 4.0," says Dr. Andreas Müller (Bosch), Chairman of the 5G-ACIA. "5G is becoming a global standard. It is therefore important to unite all relevant stakeholders worldwide in the 5G-ACIA. We already have members from China, Europe, Japan, Korea and the USA. The initiative is developing very dynamically, which is why we expect a further significant growth spurt in the near future." The rapid growth of the initiative also shows how important it is to make 5G industry-ready right from the start. "The next generation of mobile communications can make a decisive contribution to the implementation of Industry 4.0," Müller continues.
