To mark its anniversary, the company, which has been in existence since 1894, celebrated with its employees on August 16 at the Hamburg Fish Auction Hall. The First Mayor of the City of Hamburg, Dr. Peter Tschentscher, opened the festive evening in front of 600 guests. A special eye-catcher in the entrance area was the model of a 3D printed racing sailboat made from a custom-made material from the company.

As one of the main sponsors and technical development partners, Lehmann & Voss is supporting the Italian start-up company OCore. This company has dedicated itself to the challenging task of revolutionizing boat building with the help of 3D printing technology and building boats faster and significantly more cost-effectively compared to the traditional process. The printing of a hull for a 6.5-metre sailing boat suitable for racing will be an important first milestone in the feasibility of this concept.

A special technology was developed for this purpose, which makes it possible to first design a boat hull with complex organic and morphological structures and then manufacture it directly using large-scale 3D printing. The special design enables a particularly light and stable construction that cannot be achieved with any other process. The integration of digital processes allows the production of large components with significantly reduced production costs and high flexibility.

This is only possible in combination with a material that is suitable for these requirements, which, in addition to high rigidity and strength, must also be lightweight. To this end, the Hamburg specialists have developed a carbon fibre-reinforced high-performance polyamide called Luvocom 3F PAHT CF, which has been specially optimized for 3D printing processes.
