Worm wheels

In continuous use

Norelem offers various worms and worm gears for the realization of worm gearboxes. They are available from stock in center distances from 17 to 80 millimeters, with several ratios available per center distance.

The right-handed, case-hardened steel worms from Norelem have ground flanks and bores. For the worm wheels, the manufacturer opted for bronze due to its better sliding and emergency running properties, while the aluminum content ensures high chemical resistance. The worm gears are suitable for continuous operation at high speeds and high torques; most of them are supplied ready for installation and can be used without reworking. In the company's catalog, both worms and worm wheels are sorted by center distance. Several gear ratios are available for each center distance.

The background: Only worms and worm gears with the same center distance or the same transmission ratio can be combined to form functioning worm gear sets. A worm gear set is used for right-angled power transmission with a simultaneous height offset (center distance of the crossed axles). The drive is usually provided by the worm. With a worm gear unit, large gear ratios of up to 100:1 can be achieved with just one stage. Depending on the reduction ratio, self-locking is possible. Further advantages of worm gear sets and worm gearboxes are their quiet running and low vibration. pb
