Torque motors
High torque and various mounting options
Baumüller offers motors from the DST2 series. With a torque range of 325 to 60,000 Nm, they are used as direct drives in numerous applications such as extruders, injection molding machines, presses and ships.
Direct drive technology is also gaining acceptance as an alternative to hydraulic systems or classic motor-gearbox solutions in more and more applications and scores points with its comparatively small installation space, good response behavior, long service life and low maintenance requirements.
Baumüller offers the motors with various mounting options; the classic option for direct drives is the version with a hollow shaft, which offers high rigidity and therefore good power transmission. The connection to the machine can be made via a clamping set, a shrink disk, a hydraulic clamping bush or a ball screw, for example. All of these connections are suitable for very high torques. This allows a wide range of requirements to be met, from high positioning accuracy and fast assembly to compactness.
The solution as a kit motor is particularly flexible. In this case, the customer only receives the active parts of the motor, i.e. the rotor and stator without the housing and bearings, and can therefore implement optimum integration into the machine mechanics.
Industry-specific solutions
One industry-specific solution is the design with thrust bearing. Thrust bearing motors were specially designed for direct drives, for example in extruders. Here, the screw is coupled directly to the motor's blind hole. The application-related high axial forces are absorbed by the axial spherical roller bearing installed here without any additional measures having to be taken. The torque motors are also available with a solid shaft or, as a customer-specific option, with a blind hole shaft.
