Roller screws
GSA supplies drives with Swiss precision
Gewindeziegler in Horriwill, Switzerland, has been grinding threads and worms of various pitches and diameters for generations. The company also produces roller screw drives, which are manufactured by Gewinde Satelliten Antriebe AG (GSA), a company founded specifically for this purpose.
These consist of a spindle, nut and satellite roller. The nut and spindle have a multi-start profile, the satellite rollers have a single-start profile. To ensure uniform load distribution across all load-bearing points, the thread-specific key data must be consistent across all three components. This requires maximum precision in all production steps.
Investment in precision
Over the last five years, the company has therefore invested in machinery and interlinking with a view to the reliable production of series and prototypes. The result is more than 40 modern CNC grinding machines and 30 robots for linking processes and autonomous production cells.
The range of roller screws includes diameters from 5 to 245 mm with pitches from 0.3 to 50 mm. All common variants such as driven nuts or inverted versions are part of the range. GSA has made a special name for itself with customized solutions. In addition to the supplier-customer relationship, the mutual partnership has increasingly become the basis for success.
The latest activities are concerned with the so-called intelligent roller screw drive. The aim is to detect technical problems at an early stage and thus carry out preventive maintenance. The company is thus creating a prerequisite for integration into the Industry 4.0 landscape. Based on experience with typical automation applications (pressing, joining, holding), the focus is currently on the possibilities in the aerospace and medical sectors (motion support).
