Condition monitoring
Reduction gearbox under observation
ABB's Ability Smart Sensor monitors the condition of Dodge reducers and provides information that can prevent unplanned downtime and extend equipment life.
The ABB Ability Condition Monitoring portfolio for the powertrain has been expanded to include Dodge reducers equipped with the Smart Sensor for mechanical power transmission components. The electric powertrain enables real-time condition monitoring of all critical components of an industrial process such as drives, motors, pumps, bearings and gearboxes. This gives the user direct access to essential data and allows them to maintain conditions for maximum productivity and safety.
Dodge reduction gearboxes sit as closed gearboxes between the engine and the driven machines. They reduce the output speed and increase the torque in the process. This function plays an important role in a wide range of industrial equipment, such as conveyor belts in mining or in the rock and cement industries. By equipping the reduction gears with the Smart Sensor for mechanical power transmission products, potential problems can be detected at an early stage based on the vibration and temperature data collected.
The smart sensor can be easily mounted on the gear reducer and communicates wirelessly, for example via a smartphone. Systems in hard-to-reach and potentially dangerous areas can therefore be monitored remotely.
"With the help of remote monitoring of temperature and vibration data across plants, maintenance teams can get an overview of the overall condition of their equipment," says Tobias Schmidt, Product Manager Digitalization at ABB Automation Products. "The status display makes it possible to identify potential problems reliably and quickly so that maintenance measures can be implemented in good time and unplanned downtimes can be avoided."
The Ability Smart Sensor for mechanical power transmission products is part of the Ability portfolio, which brings together all of ABB's digital solutions. As part of ABB Ability, customers can compare the performance data of important components across the entire system or plant. as
