Investments in new plants
Record sales and employee growth at Ziehl-Abegg
Ziehl-Abegg has published its annual figures for 2022. With sales of 873 million euros, the company increased by around 22 percent compared to the previous year (716 million euros). The number of employees rose to 5,100 globally (previous year: 4,700) and to 2,800 in Germany (previous year: 2,600). Despite the closure of the site in Russia and an overall unstable supply chain, which made production planning more difficult, Ziehl-Abegg was able to continue its success and is planning further investments in new plants.
"We are well on track," says CEO Dr. Marc Wucherer. On the one hand, the growth in turnover is due to the unavoidable need to increase sales prices as a result of the sharp rise in purchase prices; on the other hand, the increasing demand for efficient and durable electric motors and fans has driven turnover. Investments in new production sites are making the company fit for the future: the construction of a new €50 million plant in Lodz (Poland) began in fall 2022; the foundation stone for a new plant in the USA, in which around €100 million will be invested, was laid at the start of 2023. "If we produce closer to the customer, we can deliver faster and there is no need for long transportation," says CEO Wucherer, explaining the positive effect of a global production network on the lower carbon footprint of the products.
Trends such as digitalization, the expansion of wind power, food production as well as building ventilation, heating and air conditioning technology will further increase the demand for Ziehl-Abegg products in the coming years. In addition, the growing interest in heat pumps will further fuel the need for quiet and efficient fans. As a result, experts are forecasting double-digit growth rates for the industry worldwide. In order to exploit the growth potential despite the difficult labor market in Germany, Ziehl-Abegg is focusing on automation in all existing plants and an expansion of international production capacities. Marc Wucherer: "With our innovative solutions and the continuous expansion of our product portfolio, we are ideally equipped to meet the increasing demands and further strengthen our competitive position."
Ziehl-Abegg is aware of the demographic challenge and the shortage of skilled workers and is making targeted investments in young talent in order to remain successful on the market in the long term. "The opportunities for young people to start their careers with dual training or dual studies will be further expanded in terms of quality and quantity in 2023," emphasizes Wucherer.
