Production plant for e-drive solutions opened

Since July 2019, Morat Swoboda Motion - the joint venture between Swoboda and Franz Morat - has been producing geared drive components for electromobility at its new plant in Nowa Ruda, Poland. The 4,500 square meter plant was officially opened in October.

Sustainable mobility concepts are on everyone's lips due to the current debate surrounding climate change. Electromobility is considered a key technology and a promising solution for sustainable mobility. In addition to electric cars, e-scooters and electric buses, electrically powered bicycles are particularly popular. Their sales in Europe clearly exceeded the two million mark for the first time in 2018 - almost one million e-bikes were sold in Germany alone. Whether city bikes for urban areas, mountain & trekking bikes for leisure use or cargo bikes for last-mile transportation. Further growth is expected in this segment in the coming years.

With the founding of Morat Swoboda Motion, Swoboda and Franz Morat have dedicated themselves to the production of geared drive components for electro-mobile applications. In 2017, the joint venture was nominated for its first major project. In June 2018, the ground-breaking ceremony marked the start of construction of the new production plant in Nowa Ruda, Lower Silesia. Franz Morat has already been successfully operating an assembly plant for the Drive Technology division in the immediate vicinity since July 2015. The first machines were delivered in November 2018 and the first sample parts left the plant in March 2019. On July 1, 2019, series production of various gears and shafts, which reliably provide drive in e-bike motors, finally began on an area of 4,500 square meters.

The new plant houses the production technologies of gear hobbing, vacuum hardening, centerless grinding, hard turning and generating grinding in-house. The automation concept used intelligently links the processing machines together. The parts are stocked using push-in trolleys with identical system pallets. At the same time, robots load and unload the machine tools.

Thanks to the flexibility of the automation solution, production can be expanded on a modular basis. For further large-volume orders, the production area can be increased to around 7,500 square meters with a new hall. In addition to gearing components for e-bike motors, Morat Swoboda Motion's product range includes gear sets for electric steering systems, rotor shafts for electric cars and planetary gears for e-scooters. as
