This order made a significant contribution to the Styrian plant manufacturer's record order backlog at the end of the first quarter of the 2019 financial year.

Automation solutions for powertrain systems
"This major order underlines our position on the market and speaks for the outstanding performance of our production systems and the satisfaction of our customers," says Norbert Kahr, Managing Director responsible for sales. "With the Powertrain Production System module series PPS, our systems are among the most flexible systems in the world and offer a clear technological advantage in high-volume production," continues Norbert Kahr.

Engines of various types, different types of gearboxes and their components are high-end components and require high-end production solutions. In this area in particular, the demand for intelligent and cost-effective production systems is growing louder. At the same time, efficiency, quality, flexibility and availability in production must continue to increase without reducing process reliability.

The solution lies in modular production systems from Pia's PPS module series. The production units include all the machines required for the assembly and testing of drivetrain units. Numerous powertrain technology developments are based on automated processes that have been developed and continuously refined at Pia Austria. "In Europe and North America, we are one of the market leaders in the manufacture of production systems for powertrain components. This is why the Styrian site with its more than 400 employees is the global powertrain lead base for the entire PIA Group," reports Norbert Kahr. The PPS module series is used successfully by leading automotive suppliers such as Magna and ZF, as well as by vehicle manufacturers such as Daimler, BMW and Volkswagen.

Further development and training
Anton Maierhofer, Managing Director responsible for operations, attaches particular importance to the continuous technical development of the company: "Pia's expertise is in demand wherever production solutions need to increase efficiency and flexibility. Only by constantly developing our technologies and training our employees can we consolidate and expand our technological lead and growth. A few years ago, we set up a research and development department in Grambach for Industry 4.0, which focuses on the development of complete I4.0 solutions".

Lifelong learning, on-the-job training and upskilling are not just empty words for Pia. "We know that we can only maintain our excellent international reputation if we invest in the qualifications of our employees. Our in-house Pia Academy therefore offers specialist seminars as well as personality training, courses to improve intercultural skills and work-life balance courses - all free of charge for our own staff," continues Anton Maierhofer. as
