Drive system

Superior in principle

Three years ago, Wittenstein launched the Galaxie drive system onto the market. Since then, several hundred gearboxes and drive systems have been in practical use. The extended, modular system concept and new designs are the next logical development step for the manufacturer.

As a compact, mechatronic unit, Galaxie D combines a Galaxie G hollow shaft gearbox with a specially developed, permanently excited high-performance synchronous motor. Water cooling and feedback system are standard - the holding brake is a useful additional feature. This also applies to optional sensor technology: it enables the transmission of operating data to an IoT cloud. In future, data can be accessed anywhere and via all end devices over the entire life cycle of the drive, regardless of the respective control system.

The latest variant is the Galaxie DF drive system. Compared to the Galaxie D, it saves up to 30 percent in overall length. This space saving is achieved by positioning the motor around the gearbox. The superior performance features of the Galaxie series - such as the high torque density and zero backlash kinematics - also apply in full to both sizes of the Galaxie DF.

The manufacturer has launched the Galaxie GH for installation situations with limited space in the overall length of the driven axle. The angled version meets the same performance values as the Galaxie G and enables a drive design without compromises.

At the heart of all versions of the Galaxie product family is the Galaxie G hollow shaft gearbox; its kinematics follow the logarithmic spiral and give the type its name. Galaxie G enables customers to create their own motor-gearbox units. The standard adapter plates from the Wittenstein alpha modular system are available for attaching the servomotors to the Galaxie G.

The Galaxie D drive system in size 085 is designed for use in axes with high demands on compactness and precision. The focus is on applications where torque is less important than high torsional rigidity and zero backlash. Even in its compact size, the Galaxie D remains superior in principle: Compared to an approximately performance-equivalent shaft gearbox, it offers three times better torsional rigidity - with a 1.5 times higher maximum output speed. pb
