Certification for aerospace
AT&S receives NADCAP accreditation
The Austrian specialist is now also allowed to equip the control systems of aircraft and spacecraft with its PCBs and other components.
From the smallest riveted joint to the engine: materials and products used in aircraft construction and aerospace must meet the highest quality standards in order to guarantee safety and freedom from defects. Of course, this also applies to electronic components such as PCB and connection solutions, which play a key role in aircraft.
"We have been supplying solutions for various applications in aviation for 15 years, and since 2015 also for safety-relevant applications," explains Florian Titjung, Quality Manager at AT&S. "This starts with control systems such as the seatbelt sign in the passenger cabin and ends with highly complex applications in the cockpit."
Aircraft control
AT&S interconnect solutions, which are also used in engine control systems, are at the heart of the Primary Flight Control Unit, which is controlled by the pilots. Many renowned aircraft manufacturers rely on AT&S in this area.
Aircraft manufacturers only work with companies that meet these highest quality standards, and the so-called NADCAP accreditation (National Aerospace and Defence Contractor Accreditation Program) was developed for this purpose. The accreditation program is carried out by the independent Performance Review Institute (PRI). In principle, it also applies to the military sector, although AT&S does not operate in this area. With this certification, the global aerospace industry is pursuing the goal of ensuring uniform standards for the quality assurance of production and testing procedures for all relevant aircraft components.
AT&S recently successfully completed this internationally recognized certification process. After more than twelve months of intensive preparation and four audit days, the auditors accredited AT&S to the NADCAP standards. "The external auditors particularly emphasized AT&S's focus on process control, the extensive automation in production, the company's commitment to meeting customer requirements and its efforts towards continuous improvement," says AT&S CEO Andreas Gerstenmayer. "This opens new doors for us not only in aerospace, but also in the direction of space technology." dsc
