System partnership with service

Baumüller drives servo presses

In spring 2019, Baumüller concluded a cooperation agreement with the press manufacturer Simpac. The company is now equipping the new MX and SX press series with drive and automation solutions.

"For us, this is a further step in the standardization process that will not only benefit Simpac. In addition to a highly efficient drive concept, our customers will also benefit in terms of maintenance and servicing in the future," explains Bernd Moritz, Chief Technology Officer at Simpac in South Korea and Managing Director of Simpac Europe.

Complete solution for highly dynamic servo presses
Baumüller will supply Simpac with highly dynamic high-torque motors as well as the complete power electronics and industrial PCs, including software such as motion control and curve generation. The overall system consists of DST2 high-torque motors, which generate a high torque even at low speeds. The combination of regulated power supply b maXX 5100 and capacitors as energy storage units reduces the mains connection power and therefore the energy costs. Operating costs are reduced compared to mechanical storage systems.

The motor itself is operated on the modules of the b maXX 5000 series. The fully wired control cabinet also comes from Baumüller. Within the Baumüller Group, all important components from the drive controller to the machine controller can be supplied for this. The control cabinets are supplied by Baumüller Dravinja, the Baumüller subsidiary in Slovenia that specializes in machine enclosures and control cabinet production. Baumüller was also responsible for the complete engineering of the drive system. The latest generation of the b maXX PCC-04, a scalable, versatile platform for demanding control tasks, is used here as the machine controller.

In the event of a fault, it is also possible to analyze the system using the remote maintenance solution. If necessary, optimization measures, such as reparameterization of the controllers, can be carried out remotely. This Industry 4.0 solution contributes to comprehensive diagnostics and a more efficient troubleshooting process, resulting in higher system availability and lower service costs. as
