Design of the outdoor area
Art on the new JAT building
The decision on the artistic design of the exterior of the new JAT building has been made. The competition entry by Erfurt artist Thomas Lindner convinced the jury and is to be implemented.
As part of the new production and technology complex being built in Buchaer Straße, the technology company JAT initiated an art competition with the support of Galerie Huber & Treff from Jena. The aim of the competition was to develop artistic ideas for the outdoor area and the façade. The design should address both the use and the architecture of the building. "With the art project, we want to increase the perception of the architecture. At the same time, the art contribution should reflect our company and relate to our daily work," says Stephan Preuß, Managing Director of JAT.
A few months ago, the art dealership Huber & Treff selected five local artists to experience JAT behind the façade during a company tour. From their encounters with the company, its products and employees, the artists developed various proposals for the exterior design. All the designs, submitted as posters, were presented at JAT and are on display there.
The special feature of the competition was that the jury was not made up of art experts as usual, but all employees were invited to express their opinion and vote. There was great interest and lively participation in the selection of the art entry. The result was clear and the design by Thomas Lindner from Erfurt was chosen.
His two-part idea initiates employee participation and incorporates fragments, sketches and drawings as a kind of collage. The composition of products in an abstract representation shows a place of innovation and future orientation. Stephan Preuß is delighted with the choice. "We see the design as a signature for the building. It reflects the employees' identification with the company," he comments on the decision. as
