Welding of non-ferrous metals

Andrea Gillhuber,

Blue cw diode laser with up to 1 kW output power

With the LDMblue high-power diode laser, Laserline presents what it claims to be the world's first blue diode laser with cw output powers of up to 1 kW at a wavelength of 450 nm. It is the first industrial laser to allow controlled heat conduction welding of highly reflective non-ferrous metals such as copper or gold.

They are available in standard configurations with 1000, 500 and 300 W output power. This opens up more efficient production options, especially when joining thin copper contacts, such as those used in battery technology for electric vehicles. Finely graduated power regulation in millisecond cycles and quiet melting baths ensure smooth seam areas with good electrical conductivity. In addition, the diode lasers have also been successfully tested in non-ferrous metal-based coating processes.
