Pressure screws from Halder

Machine and fixture parts, clamping elements, operating parts and machine elements - the Erwin Halder product range already includes over 10,000 standard parts and continues to grow. The latest additions include various thrust screws and ball thrust screws.

Erwin Halder has decades of experience in the development of standard parts, especially for workpiece clamping. The numerous parts can be used to solve a wide variety of clamping situations. In order to enable more and more users to manufacture economically with standardized parts without special solutions, the company is continuously expanding its standard range - in addition to new developments - to include new designs and sizes of the proven standard parts with fast delivery from stock. Pressure screws, for example - consisting of a grub screw at the front with a pressed bolt - are ideal for gently clamping shafts without scratching the surface and for pressing on threaded spindles. They fix shafts without prior mechanical processing, secure larger screws or act as adjustable resistance for rotating shafts.

The threaded pins of the pressure screws are made of either stainless steel (1.4305) or heat-treated steel, and the bolts are available in brass or plastic. The brass bolts can achieve higher holding forces during clamping, while the relatively soft plastic bolt does not scratch the part to be clamped and also insulates it electrically. The pressure screws with the extension are now available in diameters from M3 to M12. Depending on the diameter, the lengths vary between 5 millimetres and 42.5 millimetres for the versions with brass bolts and between 3.8 and 102.1 millimetres for the versions with plastic bolts.

Clamping workpieces with non-parallel surfaces

The ball thrust screws consist of a threaded pin made of either tempered steel (1,200 N/mm2+/- 100 N/mm2) or stainless steel (1.4305) with a movable ball - full or flattened - at the front end. As the ball adapts to the workpiece, the ball pressure screws are mainly used for clamping, tensioning or supporting non-parallel surfaces. By screwing them into a fixture, for example, the force is transferred to the surface of the component. The company has added further sizes to the ball pressure screws without heads. In contrast to the versions with heads, these variants can be screwed in over their entire length.

For example, the anti-rotation ball pressure screws without a head with a flattened ball have been extended. Thanks to the locking mechanism, the ball cannot turn inwards with its surface. Halder now supplies versions with a flat surface from stock in sizes M6 to M16, and also in M20 and M24 made from heat-treated steel. The lengths vary between 12 and 80 millimetres depending on the version. Halder offers the ball thrust screws with ribbed, flattened ball in M8 to M24 in lengths of 16 to 120 millimetres.

Precise adjustment with fine thread

Ball thrust screws without a head and with a fine thread can be adjusted more precisely in the screw-in depth than versions with a normal thread. They are available with a full ball as well as with a flattened ball, flat or serrated. Depending on the version, these fixture parts with the size extension are now available from stock with diameters from M4 x 0.35 to M8 x 1 in lengths from 7.5 to 21.2 millimetres.

With these variants, users can choose between a ball made of hardened ball bearing steel or hardened stainless steel. The company also offers versions with a full ball or a flattened ball made of thermoplastic for brittle, pressure-sensitive parts. A short version with a flattened, flat ball is also available. It is particularly suitable for clamping cylindrical shanks with DIN 1835 E in conjunction with Whistle Notch or Weldon tool holders. ee
