Laser processing optics
For welding hairpins in electric motors
The RLW-S laser processing optics from Scansonic were developed for the laser welding of hairpins in electric motors.
This is because more and more manufacturers are using copper hairpins instead of copper wire windings in the production of stators. The parts, which are shaped like hairpins, are attached and their heads welded with a laser beam. Between 160 and 220 hairpins have to be processed per stator in a maximum time window of 60 to 120 seconds.
The system is based on laser scanners and directs the laser beam down to tenths of a millimeter. This is made possible by an integrated camera that can precisely identify the processing point. The camera is also used to check the quality of the welding process.
Laser optics are already being used successfully in the production of various automotive suppliers.
