This enables up to 6 degrees of freedom and movement axes with a linear motor, long adjustment paths and encoders for position readout. As an additional option, the laser steel can be deflected in a field of 100 x 100 mm within a few milliseconds using an XY scanner.

Modern fiber lasers offer up to 500 W continuous wave power and produce weld seams down to 20 µm wide. In pulsed mode, such lasers offer high peak powers that are suitable for deep penetration welding. Alternatively, flashlamp-pumped Nd:YAG lasers enable high flexibility with laser pulses in the millisecond range. This allows spot diameters down to 100 µm to be achieved.

Automated image processing uses the image files from the welding optics and external cameras for motion control, for example for seam tracking. Component-specific software algorithms reduce the processing time to a minimum.

VersaWeld works as a stand-alone station or can be integrated into production lines. Workpiece carriers for single and multiple loading, conveyor belts and feeders provide the components and allow them to be exchanged with other stations in the production line. VersaWeld also controls robots for loading processes. Quick-change devices ensure a high degree of flexibility when the system handles different processes and reduce set-up times.
