Günter Herkommer,

The Safety & Security Forum 2019

The 'Forum Safety & Security' will take place again this year from July 8 to 10 in the Sindelfingen City Hall.

The topics of 'safety' and 'security' often only come to mind when negative headlines about catastrophic accidents or hacker attacks appear in the press. A prominent example from the mechanical engineering sector: at the end of last year, the Munich-based machine and plant manufacturer Krauss Maffei fell victim to a ransomware attack, resulting in production being throttled for weeks. The damage caused is likely to have been enormous.

Prevention must therefore be the watchword! At this year's 'Forum Safety & Security', experts will be discussing the various aspects and problems as well as the latest developments in the field of information security and the functional safety of machines, systems and components. Participants can put together their own personal conference program from over 50 presentations - divided into the four sessions 'Industry', 'Automotive', 'Medical Electronics' and 'Methods and Tools'.

In the 'Industry' session, which focuses on mechanical engineering and the operators of production facilities, the focus will be on the following topics, among others:

  • Safety & Security by Design
  • Live SCADA hack of an IoT device
  • Intrusion detection using machine learning
  • Risk analyses in the safety / security framework of IEC TR 63069
  • Safe Motion in practice
  • Robotics - a practical approach to safety without a fence
  • Wireless Profisafe via Profinet and Profibus
  • Training safety experts - a field report

Before the actual lecture program starts on 9 July, there will be an opportunity to take part in the introductory seminar "Functional Safety and Security in Embedded Systems" on 8 July - held by Prof. Dr. Peter Fromm from Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences. The seminar is aimed at developers, testers, technical project managers and quality assurance experts who are interested in the topic of functional safety and information security and would like to gain an initial in-depth insight.
