Overtemperature protection

Overtemperature protection in miniature format

Schurter presents the compact RTS overtemperature protection for power semiconductors in SMD technology. RTS stands for "Reflowable Thermal Switch". It was developed to protect highly integrated power electronics such as MOSFETs, ICs, IGBTs, triacs, SCRs, etc. from overheating. Before mechanical activation, the new fuse can be soldered on conventional reflow soldering systems with profiles up to 260 °C. The reflow soldering process is followed by mechanical activation, which sensitizes the RTS to a triggering temperature of 210 °C. This can be done manually or fully automatically. The RTS, which measures just 6.6 x 8.8 mm, can handle operating currents of up to 100 A at rated voltages of up to 60 VDC. Customer-specific variants are available with shunt or additional overcurrent protection, which further reduces the space requirement. The reflowable thermal switch meets all requirements in accordance with AEC-Q200 and MIL-STD. In the event of a thermal runaway, the non-resettable fuse reliably interrupts the circuit at a precisely defined temperature. am
