WZL: Thomas Bergs succeeds Fritz Klocke

After 23 years, Professor Dr. Fritz Klocke handed over the leadership of the Chair of Manufacturing Process Technology at the Laboratory for Machine Tools and Production Engineering WZL at RWTH Aachen University to Prof. Dr. Thomas Bergs on June 1, 2018.

Professor Bergs studied mechanical engineering with a focus on construction technology at RWTH Aachen University. He then worked as a research assistant at the Fraunhofer Institute for Production Technology IPT in Aachen in the Process Technology department from 1995 to 2001. His work focused on the field of laser-assisted machining. In 2000, he became Head of the Laser Technology Group and Business Unit Manager of "Aachener Werkzeug- und Formenbau". Since the beginning of 2001, he has been managing senior engineer at the Fraunhofer IPT. He received his doctorate in November 2001.

On June 1, 2018, he was appointed university professor at the Chair of Manufacturing Process Technology at RWTH Aachen University and member of the board of directors at the Laboratory for Machine Tools and Production Engineering WZL at RWTH Aachen University and the Fraunhofer Institute for Production Technology IPT. as
