ACE vibration dampers in luxury motorhomes

pb,

Off on vacation - but please take it easy!

A Dutch constructor has equipped air compressors in his motorhome with vibration dampers from ACE Shock Absorbers.

Motorhomes are in vogue. The most luxurious vehicles include so-called recreational vehicles (RVs) from various providers in the USA. These vehicles have developed into five-star hotels with elegant interiors, exclusive exteriors and powerful engines. Neither loudly humming air conditioning systems nor other technical systems operated by the power of compressors, such as air suspension, door opening and closing or sanitary systems, fit into the picture. While driving, the additional background noise from these consumers is not initially disturbing, but as soon as the vehicle is stationary, noise from the air supply technology, for example, is disturbing.

Vibrations from the compressor mounting

In the air supply system for the suspension, doors and toilets, the noise was caused by the fastenings of the respective compressors underneath the motorhome in the technical area. They transmitted the vibrations to the bodywork, resulting in clearly audible and perceptible vibrations - which impaired living comfort, especially at night. Vibration dampers from ACE provide a remedy here - after all, travelers want peace and quiet in their vehicle.

Universally applicable vibration dampers

Peter van Dijk, successor to the founding generation and senior director of the Dutch company Dijko Ovens B.V. from Tilburg, is a mechanical engineer and expert in the automation and electronic control of oven systems for large bakeries and is familiar with air conditioning technology, pneumatic systems and compressors. He researched industrially proven components for isolating vibrations. He found what he was looking for at ACE. ACE's vibration damper range alone consists of eleven different product families. Collectively referred to as rubber-metal isolators, these components can be used for various applications. They isolate shocks and vibrations from machines and motors to such an extent that the working conditions for people and the environment are significantly improved. In the field of measurement technology, for example, their use is often the only way to achieve usable results. Whether levelling or robust machine feet, pot elements, vibration-isolating connecting elements or quick-fastening elements, all ACE vibration dampers can be used universally and are a suitable solution for vibration problems in industrial applications.

Customized design with just a few clicks

After taking into account all key data relevant to the respective design, such as weight and bearing points, a design tool developed by ACE calculates, among other things, the center of mass of the machine and thus the individual load on the support points, whereby off-center loads can also be entered. The program used is available online and can be operated intuitively, so that in many cases designers can arrive at an ideal solution in just a few steps. On request, only tear-resistant types are selected. The software determines which vibration dampers are best suited to the entered values and enables ordering in the connected online store.

Bubble mounts absorb vibrations

The Bubble Mounts type BM-50641 vibration dampers were the right choice for the luxury motorhome. They achieve a degree of isolation of 95.65 percent under the present conditions. Bubble mounts are designed for the efficient isolation of light loads in aviation electronics, on computers or for the storage of particularly sensitive medical equipment. The small and compact helpers are predestined for use under load in vertical pressure loads and are therefore suitable for the effective insulation of small pumps or compressors, for example in motorhomes.

Original washers replaced with bubble mounts

At a nominal load of eight Hertz, the natural frequency is so low that annoying vibrations can be effectively eliminated in most cases. The bubble mounts used are easy to install and can support loads of 1.2 to 2.9 kilograms. Peter van Dijk sums up the installation process and the replacement of the components: "The standard anti-vibration measures consisted of simple, cylindrically shaped rubber components with a diameter and height of 15 millimetres. They were intended to decouple the compressors from the mounting point on the underbody of the technical area. This was very inefficient and led to the transmission of vibrations. Even after replacing these original washers on the first compressor, a difference could be felt and felt."
