Siemens opens AM Network for medical inquiries
Siemens is making its 3D printing platform Additive Manufacturing Network (AM Network) available to help tackle the coronavirus pandemic. At the same time, the Group is connecting its systems in order to print the required components as needed and suitable.
Siemens launched the Additive Manufacturing Network in April 2018. As an online platform for collaboration, it provides users in the manufacturing industry worldwide with expertise, knowledge, digital tools and production capacities for industrial 3D printing.
The Group is now opening up the platform for processing design and print requests from doctors, hospitals and medical technology manufacturers. This is because constant use causes wear and tear in medical technology and medical devices, meaning that parts need to be replaced. The aim of Siemens' initiative is to enable fast and uncomplicated 3D printing of spare parts such as ventilators.
Free access for the medical sector
Doctors, hospitals and organizations that require medical and medical technology parts can now register with the AM Network free of charge. The same applies to designers and service providers with printer capacities that are certified for medical applications. "In recent years, we have built up a comprehensive portfolio for additive manufacturing along the entire value chain and are now able to quickly produce the required components using 3D printing. To support the fight against Covid-19, we have now opened our Additive Manufacturing Network to hospitals and healthcare organizations in urgent need of medical spare parts. This means that their design and print requests can be processed quickly and efficiently," said Klaus Helmrich, member of the Siemens Managing Board and CEO of Siemens Digital Industries.
Designers and engineers are available
Designers and engineers from Siemens are available for design requests. They help to convert design requests into printable files. The parts designed in this way can then be printed by medically certified service providers who are also connected to the network.
Designers, engineers and service providers with 3D printers can also contribute their expertise via the AM Network. In addition to the 3D printers from Siemens, the know-how and numerous printers from partner companies are also available via the network.
