Steute shows nexy wireless network with extended connectivity

Steute's Leantec division is presenting an enhanced version of the nexy wireless network with improved connectivity and additional cybersecurity functions. The background to the further development is the increasing use of automated guided vehicles (AGVs) and autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) in intralogistics.

In such applications, nexy often takes on the function of an automatic material retrieval system (AMS). Wireless sensors detect free pallet spaces or low fill levels in containers, for example, and report these to higher-level IT systems such as ERP, WMS or MES via the Sensor Bridge. On this basis, material replenishment is requested and transported to the destination by AGVs. Even non-stock materials can be integrated into the information flow in this way. New interfaces based on VDA 5050 have been created for integration into heterogeneous AGV and AMR fleets. This enables a connection to the SYNAOS platform, among others. Further interfaces, for example to platforms from Agilox, Hartwall, MHP and SYNAOS, enable direct communication between nexy and the fleet management systems. Information generated by nexy can thus be displayed on the respective dashboards, for example. The platform's security standard has also been enhanced. Requirements from regulated sectors such as medical device manufacturing and the pharmaceutical industry led, among other things, to the implementation of complete logging of all material requirements sent from the store floor to systems such as SAP.

Manual orders can also be integrated into the system. Further cybersecurity measures prepare the wireless network for upcoming regulatory requirements such as the Cyber Resilience Act. In addition to its use as an AMS, nexy can also be used for eKanban applications, the management of dollies and at transfer points between stationary conveyor technology and AGVs. On the hardware side, various switching devices, sensors, application-specific terminal devices, multiple indicator lights and wireless handheld operating devices are available.
