Absolute positioning system
Safe positioning with one sensor
Pepperl+Fuchs has developed positioning systems for safe absolute positioning according to SIL 3/PL e with just one sensor: SafePXV for linear positioning and SafePGV for navigation of driverless transport systems.
The security technology is based on the combination of a 2D read head with a multicolored data matrix code band. The security solution is created by using multicolored codes in conjunction with two-color lighting. Each code contains security information that is made visible in red and blue by the LED lighting and then read by the camera.
The safe X-position is output to the control system after being plausibilized directly in the sensor. There, the data can be further processed and used for process control.
Two different sensors are available: The SafePXV is used for linear positioning. In addition to the safe position, the Y-position is also available.
The SafePGV is used for the navigation of driverless transport systems and goes beyond mere positioning. In addition to the safe X-position, the sensor also provides the values required for reliable vehicle control and offers additional angle data that can be used for navigation.
The latest generation of positioning systems offers enlarged reading windows of 120 x 80 millimetres. An advantage that guarantees multiple redundancy. Firstly, each individual code is already redundant in terms of data, and secondly, the large window can always read five data matrix codes simultaneously. According to the company, this ensures the smooth positioning of even dirty or damaged codes. Tight curve radii, inclines and declines can also be implemented over distances of up to 100,000 meters. The code bands can be interrupted by up to 75 millimetres without affecting performance. This is a particular advantage for long routes and expansion joints in buildings. as
