Reliable detection of multipacks

The new DRT25C.R dynamic reference sensor from Leuze detects different film-wrapped bottle and can packs without errors - using the conveyor belt as a reference. Thanks to object-independent detection, no adjustments are necessary even when changing products.

With the DRT 25C.R container sensor, Leuze is expanding its family of dynamic reference switches. These are based on CAT technology (Contrast Adaptive Teach), which enables a new functional principle in binary switching sensor technology. These Leuze probes use the conveyor belt rather than the object as a reference value.

Multipacks are very practical for transporting beverage bottles or cans. In the packaging process, however, they present plant operators with challenges due to their diversity: The film-wrapped pack can be metallic, colorful or transparent. It can also have holes in the film or contain cardboard. Above all, however, beverage containers differ in shape and height. This places high demands on reliable detection. The innovative DRT25C.R dynamic reference sensor from Leuze meets these requirements. It is installed above the conveyor belt and uses the belt as a reference. The flexible sensor detects all objects that do not correspond to the belt surface. This detection from above functions reliably and independently of the object. With its long range of 450 millimetres, the DRT25C.R detects six-, eight- and multipacks, regardless of whether they have transparent or printed film.

Regardless of the customer-specific application, one sensor per roller conveyor is sufficient, which system operators can set up in seconds: After pressing the teach button once, the belt surface is saved as a reference value. Two teach levels offer maximum flexibility. Even after a product change, the setting does not need to be adjusted because the reference has not changed. This eliminates set-up times. In contrast to classic diffuse reflection sensors, the container sensor scores points for its greater reliability in the event of vibrations and soiling on the conveyor belt. The Contrast Adaptive Teach technology compensates for this. System operators who want additional functions such as warning messages can easily integrate them via IO-Link.
