Rexroth offers the integrated position measuring system IMScompact. The sensor system integrated into the ball-bearing carriage enables the exact position to be measured with a high degree of repeat accuracy.

IMScompact complements the range of linear guideways with integrated measuring systems from size 15, allowing the system for ball rail guides to be integrated economically and compactly into small machines. Integration into the carriage ensures a high level of EMC protection. This also makes the system suitable for use in conjunction with linear motors. The wear-free, optionally incremental or absolute measuring system increases precision and dynamics, particularly in handling and general automation solutions.

IMScompact measures the position of the carriage without contact with an absolute accuracy of +/-20 µm/m and a repeat accuracy of +/- 1 µm at speeds of up to 5 m/s. For this purpose, a magnetic tape is glued and fixed along the entire length of the linear guideway. The steel body of the carriage shields the integrated encoder from magnetic interference fields.

With the exception of the cable outlet on the side of the carriage, the dimensions are the same as those of the standard guides. In most cases, they can therefore be integrated into existing designs without any design changes. The measuring system has an incremental 1 Vpp or TTL interface as well as an absolute SSI encoder interface. The measuring length is up to 17.8 m with multi-part rail sections.

While the absolute variant is always supplied with a plug, users can also specify an open cable end for the incremental variant. The freely selectable cable length is suitable for cable dragging. Bosch Rexroth offers an external digital display as an accessory for measuring the length of components in fixture construction, for example.
