Insulation fault location in coupled systems

With the isometer series iso685, Bender offers state-of-the-art insulation monitoring devices. They monitor the insulation resistance to earth in the unearthed system of IT systems and report when the value falls below a certain level.

With the help of devices for automatic insulation fault location, which can be carried out during operation, it is now possible to find insulation faults even in large and widely branched IT systems.

The iso685-D-P variant is suitable for systems with insulation fault location. Insulation fault locators from the Isoscan series assign the locating current to a faulty load via measuring current transformers.

The iso685-D-P communicates with the EDS440 and EDS441 insulation fault locators via an RS-485 sensor bus or a DIN rail bus.

The iso685-D-P can also be used in applications with coupled networks. Thanks to the EDSsync function, all iso685-D-Ps in a group and therefore all EDSs connected to it take part in the insulation fault location. This function is independent of whether the insulation monitoring devices in the coupled systems are deactivated via ISOnet or via a digital input.

If one of the two devices detects an insulation fault, it automatically switches to insulation fault location mode. If the EDSsync function is activated, insulation faults are searched for in parallel on both sides of the coupling switch, even if the right-hand iso685-D-P is deactivated due to the closed coupling switch.

New measuring methods make it possible to find even high-impedance faults with high system leakage capacitances and low test currents. The faulty channels are shown on the display and can be replaced by plain text messages. The iso685-D-P can communicate via Modbus TCP, Modbus RTU and isoData.
