Production capacities expanded

Endress+Hauser grows in China

Just five years after the last expansion, Endress+Hauser has further increased its production capacity with a third plant at the Suzhou site in China. 100 kilometers west of Shanghai, an additional 16,500 square meters of floor space is now available to accommodate the disproportionate growth in the Far East.

New production capacities: The Endress+Hauser competence centers for flow measurement technology, liquid analysis and temperature measurement technology in Suzhou, China, have an additional 16,500 square meters at their disposal.

The new building in the Suzhou Industrial Park, which is home to over 20,000 companies on 450 square kilometers, was officially opened in the presence of representatives from politics and business, customers and employees. The new production site expands the capacities of flow measurement technology, liquid analysis and temperature measurement technology.

"Our investment of around 44 million euros underlines the great importance of the Chinese market," says Dr. Bernd-Josef Schäfer, Managing Director of flow measurement specialist Endress+Hauser Flowtec, based in Reinach, Switzerland. The modern, large and light-flooded production halls and offices offer optimal working conditions in order to continue to meet the requirements of the Chinese market and the wishes of customers in the best possible way.

New flow calibration system

Unparalleled precision: Endress+Hauser calibrates flowmeters worldwide according to the same standards. The new facility in Suzhou, China, is designed for very large instruments with diameters of up to 3,000 millimetres.

In addition to the comprehensive portfolio of measuring devices, Endress+Hauser also offers support through services worldwide. These enable customers to optimize their process engineering processes over the entire life cycle of a system and thus increase productivity and competitiveness - for example through the fully traceable calibration of flowmeters.

Until now, Endress+Hauser has been able to calibrate flowmeters with a pipe diameter of 2 to 1,200 millimetres at the facilities in Suzhou. The Group's largest and most modern calibration facility now makes it possible to calibrate electromagnetic flowmeters with nominal diameters of up to 3,000 millimeters. The new system works with a maximum measurement uncertainty of ±0.05 percent. This corresponds to a deviation of just 0.1 liters per 200 liters - or a glass of sparkling wine to the filling of a bathtub.

Water and wastewater sector drives growth

Electromagnetic flowmeters with large nominal diameters are frequently used in the water and wastewater industry. The nationwide expansion of the water supply is one of the most important goals in China. In recent years, the Group has established itself in this growth market with high-quality measuring devices that reliably and accurately measure water flows in treatment plants or distribution stations.

"In order to be able to react quickly and flexibly to regional changes and growth opportunities in the local market and to always be close to our customers, we are constantly expanding our production sites worldwide," says Matthias Altendorf, CEO of the Endress+Hauser Group, underlining the Group's sustainable growth strategy. "This is particularly important in a market as dynamic as China."

Strong presence in China

Endress+Hauser has had its own sales center in China since 1995. Today, more than 420 sales employees work in Shanghai, Beijing and eleven other offices. The flowmeter production facility in Suzhou was opened in 2004; level, pressure and temperature measurement technology as well as liquid analysis followed in a second building in 2006. A total of around 290 employees work in the production facility in Suzhou, which supplies the Chinese market as well as other countries in Asia.

Analytik Jena also has a strong presence. The laboratory specialist has around 100 employees in China. The company, which belongs to Endress+Hauser, has been represented at four locations in China since 2001 with its Analytical Instrumentation and Life Sciences business units. kp
