Contactless temperature monitoring with thermal imaging cameras
Flir launches a smart sensor thermal imaging solution for industrial monitoring and checking for elevated skin temperature. The cameras will initially be delivered primarily to emergency services in the fight against COVID-19.
Flir has introduced its fixed A400/A700 thermal imaging cameras, which are available as a smart sensor and image streaming solution. They can be used to monitor plants, production lines and infrastructures or to check people for an elevated body temperature. The intelligent camera systems enable precise and contact-free temperature monitoring in numerous different disciplines. These include manufacturing process control, product development, emissions monitoring, waste management, plant maintenance and environmental, health and safety (EHS) improvement.
The Flir A400/A700 smart sensor thermal imaging solution will initially be delivered primarily in the context of COVID-19. This series offers simultaneous image streaming from multiple cameras, network-based analysis functions and Wi-Fi connectivity for all applications. It thus supports an accelerated data flow, enables faster decisions and improves productivity and safety in companies.
To better meet application-specific requirements, Flir offers the A400/A700 cameras in two different configurations. The smart sensor configuration, which is recommended for measuring elevated skin temperatures, is equipped with network-based data processing functions in addition to advanced software-based measuring instruments and alarms. This allows decisions to be made more quickly in critical situations. The image streaming configuration enables simultaneous image streaming from multiple thermal imaging cameras to optimize process control, improve quality assurance or detect potential defects that could lead to a production line failure.
To create a system, users first select either the Smart Sensor or Image Streaming configuration, then decide on the A400 or A700 camera variant based on the resolution required, and then add lenses and other optional features to best suit their application.
"As the world joins forces to fight the global COVID-19 pandemic, there is currently a huge need for this technology. That's why Flir will initially prioritize delivering the new A-Series cameras to experts who will use them as an additional option to other temperature measurement instruments for checking for elevated skin temperature to help contain the spread of the virus," says Jim Cannon, President and CEO of Flir.
In addition, the company is currently beta testing a new solution for automatically detecting elevated skin temperature in screened individuals that fully integrates with its FDA-certified thermal imaging cameras. This solution is designed to significantly improve the accuracy, ease of use and speed of existing screening solutions. Flir plans to publicly launch this solution in the second quarter of 2020. as
