Bubble sensor

Andreas Mühlbauer,

Detecting air bubbles in liquids

EBE is launching a capacitive bubble sensor on the market that reliably detects air bubbles and liquid breakages, regardless of the liquid and the condition of the hose.

According to the manufacturer, the detection performance remains constant even with mechanical tolerances or changing hose sizes. The capacitive bubble sensors are based on the measurement of capacitance changes caused by the different permittivity of air and liquid. If an air bubble passes the sensor, the electrical field changes and the sensor detects the bubble.

Compared to ultrasonic sensors, capacitive technology is less expensive to purchase and less sensitive to mechanical tolerances. The Capatec sensor does not require a specially adapted housing. Compared to optical sensors, it can be used regardless of the color and transparency of the medium.
