AI for industrial image processing

At Control, IDS will be showcasing a 2D industrial camera that interprets image content "on the edge" using an artificial neural network (ANN).

The programmable camera models IDS NXT rio and rome have an industrial-grade design and, thanks to "Smart GenICam" and AI-supported image processing, enable functions that classic GigE Vision cameras cannot offer.

"Smart GenICam" means that camera functions programmed by the user can be queried and executed in a GenICam-compliant manner. For models with artificial intelligence, inference times of just a few milliseconds are possible thanks to FPGA-based AI acceleration. Thanks to the reprogrammability of the integrated KNN accelerator, the embedded systems also offer advantages in terms of future-proofing, low recurring costs and time-to-market.

Integrated data processing also offers new possibilities in the field of 3D vision - such as accelerated processing, increased cycle times and greater scope for application design. The Ensenso XR stereo vision camera is designed to calculate 3D point clouds itself. The results are then sent to a host PC via Ethernet or WLAN. The significantly faster generation of 3D data is ideal for multi-camera systems and fast bin picking applications. as
