Andrea Gillhuber,

Continue together

On March 26, the impact of the coronavirus and the resulting Covid-19 disease on the industry and our professional lives became very clear once again.

Around midday, Deutsche Messe decided not to hold the Hannover Messe for the first time in its 73-year history; the new date is April 2021. In the late afternoon, Messe München followed suit with its decision to postpone the Automatica robotics trade fair until December.

These trade fair cancellations and postponements, the economic impact and the exit restrictions are all part of the dark side of the coronavirus pandemic. But there are also positive developments, including the solidarity, flexibility and innovative strength of some companies.

Osram produces its own disinfectant and wants to make it available to hospitals, for example.

The Codesys Group is now making its "Codesys Automation Server" available to users free of charge for the whole year.

Within six weeks, Bosch developed a rapid Covid-19 test that can detect an infection in less than 2.5 hours.

Stratasys mobilizes its 3D printing resources worldwide to produce disposable face shield visors for medical personnel.

These are just a few examples, and for those who are now saying, "We can help too!", I would also like to refer you to the VDMA website: The Federal Ministry of Health has submitted an urgent request to the association regarding the manufacture of infection protection equipment. You can find all the necessary information under the link bit.ly/2Uz2tDK.

And something else has changed: A "... and stay healthy!" has crept into the goodbyes in emails and conversations as a matter of course. A small sign of solidarity!

With this in mind, stay healthy for you and your loved ones!
