Opinion
People in Stuttgart and Hanover
Did you also meander through the packed halls of the Stuttgart trade fair at Logimat? Every year, the trade fair ends with new records and you think that must be it.
And then the following year there are more visitors, more exhibitors and more exhibition space. The significant increase in visitor numbers was probably noticed by anyone who was in a hurry in the packed aisles: 1,624 international companies (up 3.8 percent) from 42 countries (up 11 percent), including 250 new exhibitors, presented their developments and system solutions to a total of 61,740 trade visitors (up 11.5 percent).
And even after Logimat, we are still right in the middle of the trade fair hustle and bustle, with the next major trade fair, the Hannover Messe, just around the corner. We have dedicated our special to this trade fair from page 32 onwards, this time in the March issue. Industrial Intelligence is the leading theme of this year's industrial show. Machines are digitized, networked and learn independently. This is the industrial world of tomorrow.
The fact that the focus this year is on artificial intelligence makes it clear that, following the cancellation of Cebit, parts of the computer trade fair have been integrated into Hannover Messe. Digitalization is no longer a marginal phenomenon that could be covered by one trade fair, as the cancellation of Cebit shows; there had been too much overlap with other events in recent years. Showcasing industry-related topics at Hannover Messe was therefore probably the right move.
But back to industrial intelligence: so if robots solve tasks on their own and share their knowledge with other machines, systems learn and work without any human weakness, what will be the role of humans in the factory of the future? The trade fair organizers emphasize that people will still be at the center of things and will provide the important impetus. I hope we can also provide you with a few ideas in this issue and wish you an exciting visit to the Hannover Messe.
