Fine-tuning the concept
The Hannover Messe, dear readers, has announced restructuring measures. "In the course of Industry 4.0, the areas of production and logistics are also moving even closer together," according to the announcement. For this reason, Cemat will be integrated into Hannover Messe as the Logistics exhibition area from 2020, and even more: logistics will become one of the three pillars - industry, energy and logistics - of the annual Hannover Messe.
Let's take a brief look at the history of Cemat: In 2005, Cemat was held for the first time in Hanover as an independent trade fair. Around 1,000 exhibitors came, the atmosphere was extremely good, the aim was to be the world's leading trade fair for intralogistics. This was followed by further editions every three years, before the switch to a two-year cycle in 2016. And in 2018, Cemat did away with its own date in Hanover and took place alongside the Hannover Messe.
Now the Cemat brand name will also be dropped in 2020 and the logistics specialists will find a new home in Halls 2, 3 and 4 every two years. This is not quite as far away as Halls 19 to 24, but still on the outskirts. The question arises as to whether this is necessary at all? After all, (intra-)logistics topics are supposed to find a framework in every edition of the Hannover Messe and in recent years, logistics experts have always been among the exhibitors at the Hannover Messe.
If the trade fair is good, then so are the logistics. In Hanover, Deutsche Messe is now betting everything on one card and on the Hannover Messe brand. However, it would be better to avoid a fiasco like the one that followed the reorganization of Cebit.
Incidentally, we have also tweaked the concept a little ourselves - for the handling award. We have changed our application deadline this year; you still have until June 19 to submit your applications online. We have also expanded and adapted our categories a little. As always, you can find the categories and application form at www.handling.de/award. We look forward to receiving your submissions!
I greet you warmly,
