Daniel Schilling,

All good ...

... in the new year? If we look at the German economy, it grew by a remarkable 2.7% in 2021 despite coronavirus and the lack of semiconductors - according to the first estimate by the Federal Statistical Office. That's good. Less good is that there was a slight decline in the last quarter of 2021. Expectations for the economic recovery had been much higher.

Nevertheless, despite all the adversity, the signs are pointing to growth again in 2022. The mechanical and plant engineering sector in particular can look forward to the need for modernization in the manufacturing industry: A shortage of workers, demands for sustainable resource consumption and the general trend towards digitalization and networking are necessitating high levels of investment on the store floor and beyond. Good prospects for innovative companies that can meet this demand.

Our first focus of the new year is on hydraulics and pneumatics and shows the enormous technological progress that has been made in recent years in this actually unspectacular field.

One example is the considerable savings in the emission of climate-damaging gases that OQ Chemicals achieved by modernizing its systems in Oberhausen - not to mention the other benefits. Read the article on page 8 and the article on page 14 about digital networking in the control of compressed air stations. We will definitely be staying on top of this topic.

I hope that 2022 will be a good year for you and look forward to accompanying you through it,

Yours, Daniel Schilling
