Expansion of production enables broad touchscreen portfolio

Rafi has commissioned new clean room facilities for its glass sensor production. Following a fundamental restructuring and expansion of its sensor production, the HMI specialist can now meet the demand for all Glasscape product groups.

These range from very small and slim to large and extremely robust touch modules. With its state-of-the-art production facilities and extensive specialist know-how, the electronics company from Baden-Württemberg is one of only a few manufacturers in Europe to offer industrial touch control systems of this size and quality class.

Touch monitors with glass sensors are superior to models based on foil sensors in many respects: glass sensors can also be used to produce large touchscreens with 24'' or even larger diagonals. On this basis, Rafi is able, for example, to optimally adapt the response behavior of its touchscreens to different types of work gloves or contact with conductive liquids and to use almost any front glass thickness.

Glass sensors also have clear advantages in terms of stability and service life. While film sensors are subject to material-related ageing and deformation factors due to UV-related yellowing or different thermal expansions of the film and glass substrate, Rafi 's glass sensors are temperature-stable from -40 to 85 °C and are also suitable for use in commercial vehicles. In addition, glass sensors are more light-transparent and guarantee excellent image quality even in bright ambient light thanks to optical bonding.

"Thanks to the future-proof expansion of our glass sensor production, we are independent of Asian component suppliers and can guarantee the long-term availability and quality of our products under all circumstances," explains Eric Bulach, Head of Strategy, Products and Markets at Rafi. "With our modern production and logistics processes, we ensure rapid availability during ramp-up and can supply all order quantities at cost-effective conditions. We are particularly competitive with Asian manufacturers, especially when it comes to large touchscreens."
