Capture the essentials: High-speed image processing

The Baumer 10 GigE cameras of the QX series are equipped with an extended internal image memory of 8 GB and a wider range of functions.

According to Baumer, applications in the field of process tracking benefit from a quadrupling of the available inspection time. It also enables flexible use of the memory. The complete new range of functions will be made available via a firmware update in the first quarter of 2019.
The expansion of the internal image memory from 2 to 8 GB allows more images to be stored and significantly increases the recording time. At 335 fps and 12 megapixel resolution, 2 s can be recorded. If an ROI (Region of Interest) with 2 megapixels is used, for example, the flexible memory management allows the recording of almost 1,000 images/s and thus extends the recording time to over 4 seconds. In addition to the burst mode, two new buffer modes are also available. They open up even greater flexibility in memory utilization. Depending on the respective application requirements, the internal image memory can be overwritten once or repeatedly in the form of a ring buffer. Parallel to buffering the images, a preview image can also be transferred via Image Preview. This simplifies process monitoring - without the need for an HDMI interface on the camera.

The QX series cameras use a 10 GigE Vision-compliant interface with a bandwidth of 1.1 GB/s for fast transmission of the buffered images and to reduce the evaluation time. This makes them 10 times faster than GigE Vision and 35 percent faster than Camera Link Full. This makes them ideal for applications that require very high frame rates for short sequences, for example in the process analysis of industrial applications or in scientific research.
