High-performance drives
High torque density due to cobalt-iron material
High performance combined with low weight is a key requirement for high-performance electric drives.
In aviation or motorsport, sheet metal stacks made of cobalt-iron alloys are often used for this purpose. This allows 20 to 30 percent higher power densities to be achieved than with electrical steel. The new CoFe alloy Vacoflux X1 from the manufacturer Vacuumschmelze closes the existing gap between electrical steel and materials with a high cobalt content.
In a study with a traction machine with an output of 250 kW, torque increases of up to 12.5 percent were achieved compared to NO20. In addition, there was an increase in efficiency at comparable operating points. At the same time, a reduction in copper losses of up to 28 percent was achieved.
