INDUSTRIAL Production Products of the year 2024
2nd place, Robotics category: EGS Automation
The SUMO automation systems from EGS Automation - economical standard solutions for automating a wide range of processes in plastics and metalworking - took second place in the robotics category in the competition for Product of the Year 2024.
The SUMO standard systems are highly flexible and compact automation solutions for applications such as plastic injection molding machines, CNC machining centers, pressing, punching and dosing systems as well as surface processing. The axes are driven by electric DC motors from Dunkermotoren, which makes the systems a particularly energy-efficient alternative to pneumatic solutions.
Instead of industrial robots, even more compact XYZ gantry systems can be used as an option. The use of different workpiece carrier concepts enables intelligent workpiece storage and handling, ranging from accumulation conveyors and transport trolleys to the unorganized feeding of bulk goods with subsequent sorting through to manual loading and removal for small batches. Thanks to decades of experience in the development of individual automation solutions, sophisticated robot gripping systems with single, double or multiple gripping tools can also be used.
When the system is integrated into production by the customer, customer-specific adaptations are made to existing interfaces to ensure a smooth changeover and commissioning.
Since 2021, pneumatic axes have been completely replaced by electric axes for SUMO standard solutions. This offers enormous energy-saving potential compared to conventional pneumatic solutions and enables significant cost savings, especially in times of rising energy costs. The smart DC motors from Dunkermotoren, which now drive the axes of the SUMO standard systems, ensure significantly improved and particularly precise movement control of the robot. Thanks to the resulting smooth movements, the SUMO automation systems can now cover an even wider range of applications for the reliable, energy- and cost-efficient automation of manufacturing and machining processes.
