AI-based robotics and automation technology

Faster integration together

Intrinsic, an Alphabet company, and Siemens are partnering to explore efficient integration between Intrinsic's robotics software, which simplifies the use of AI-based robotics, and Siemens Digital Industries' open and interoperable automation portfolio.

Intrinsic has a leading robotics and AI expert team with a strong profile in perception, machine learning and especially reinforcement learning. Siemens' automation engineers and software developers bring industry-leading expertise in industrial automation technology.

More efficient interfaces between automation and robotics systems

Currently, the development and runtime environments for AI-based robotics on the one hand and automation components on the other differ significantly in their development paradigms, making integration cumbersome. For example, the use of complex robot features such as pose determination, path planning and AI-based control usually requires entire teams of technical experts. The two companies want to develop new methods to close the current gaps between robotics, automation technology and IT development.

The integration of both worlds accelerates the development process of flexible robot work cells and facilitates their operation. As a result, industrial robotics will become more accessible and easier to use for developers, integrators and end customers - especially in new market segments such as small and medium-sized manufacturing companies (SMEs).

Collaboration makes access to robotics easier

"Intrinsic's mission is to democratize access to robotics. However, robotics is rarely decoupled from the production environment where the greatest value is created," says Wendy Tan White, CEO of Intrinsic. "That's why partnering with Siemens Digital Industries, an industry-leading automation expert, is an excellent opportunity for us to work on joint, market-ready solutions so that significantly more companies can benefit from the productivity potential of combined robotics and automation."

"Siemens is bringing IT and OT closer together - this is an important guiding principle of our Industrial Operations X portfolio," says Rainer Brehm, CEO Factory Automation at Siemens. "We value the openness of the Intrinsic platform and look forward to working with Intrinsic to explore how to further accelerate the connection of AI-based robotics and automation technology."
