Conversion to e-mobility
Fanuc supplies 500 robots to Ford plant in Cologne
The automation specialist Fanuc has received another major order in the field of electromobility. The company will supply around 500 robots to the Ford plant in Cologne.
The Fanuc robots are to be used in car body construction. Delivery is scheduled for 2022. The Ford plant in Cologne is currently being expanded into the Ford Cologne Electrification Center, i.e. a Europe-wide development and production site for electric vehicles. The car manufacturer's first all-electric volume passenger car model is set to roll off the production line there from 2023. Ford has also announced that it will only offer battery-electric passenger car models in Europe from 2030.
"Fanuchat has a lot of experience in the field of robotics for e-mobility," says Ralf Winkelmann, Managing Director of Fanuc Germany. "We are delighted to be able to support Ford in this pioneering transformation." Headquartered in Japan, Fanuc operates in more than 100 countries around the world, offering customers from a wide range of industries a particularly reliable international customer service. "Fanuc has been working closely with Ford in the USA for many years," says Winkelmann. "Now we are expanding this successful cooperation to Europe."
Shinichi Tanzawa, President and CEO of Fanuc Europe, is also pleased about the collaboration in the field of electromobility: "Our robots are known for their reliability and durability. We are therefore convinced that they will contribute to lower downtimes and maintenance costs at the Ford plant in Cologne."
