Physik Instrumente: New linear stages for inspection tasks

Physik Instrumente is expanding its portfolio with the new V-817 high-load linear stage series. The positioning solution is suitable for applications such as sensor and camera placement, laser welding or optical and tactile testing processes as well as wafer processing and inspection.

The design of the linear stages is specifically geared towards industrial use with high work cycles: 3-phase linear motors and recirculating ball bearing guides enable permanent loads of up to 600 Newtons and speeds of up to 3,000 millimetres per second. The incremental linear encoder with a resolution of up to 0.3 nanometres is also intended to ensure high path accuracy, minimal following errors and short settling times. The calibrated positioning accuracy of the linear stages is up to plus/minus 2.5 micrometers. The travel ranges up to 813 millimeters.

Flexible combination and simple machine integration
For multi-axis applications, the linear tables can be easily combined into XY setups. The axes can be individually mounted using the optional movement platform and the triple M6 drilling grid. Without the movement platform, the linear tables are only 63 millimetres high. This means they can be integrated into compact machine setups as individual axes or as an XY combination to save space. The flat design reduces the moving mass and tilting errors.

According to PI, the linear tables are suitable for use in clean working environments, as no particles are loosened by the movement. Thanks to a specially machined edge with a parallelism (//) of better than 30 micrometers to the guides or the direction of movement, the linear tables can be aligned quickly and easily when installed in the machine. Industrial-grade connectors with a high IP protection rating ensure a secure connection.

Industrial control
To control the V-817 linear tables, PI offers the G-901 electronics solution consisting of an ACS motion controller and drivers for up to four axes and an integrated safe torque off module (STO). Alternatively, individual ACS drivers such as udmHP/BA, udmPM and udmPA can be used in conjunction with the ACS Motion Controller as module solutions for single and multi-axis applications. as
