Vacuum gripper for cobots

Onrobot takes over gripper manufacturer Purple Robotics

Within a year, Purple Robotics has developed the world's first vacuum gripper specifically for cobots. Purple Robotics has now been acquired by Onrobot.

The acquisition of Purple Robotics comes just two months after Onrobot merged with three robotics manufacturers from the USA, Hungary and Denmark, and gives the company the opportunity to offer its authorized dealers the world's first double vacuum gripper. The gripper already attracted international attention in June this year when it was presented by its inventors at Automatica in Munich.

Purple Robotics was founded by the three Danish "super nerds" Lasse Kieffer, Henrik Tillitz Hansen and Peter Nadolny Madsen, who had already worked as product developers at Universal Robots on the design of the world's first cobot. Onrobot is now in a position to integrate this valuable know-how into the existing research and development department at its headquarters in Odense.

"It has been an inspiring experience to build a completely new robotics company and to disrupt the vacuum gripper market with our invention," says Lasse Kieffer, CEO of Purple Robotics. By joining forces with Onrobot, the company can now focus 100 percent on the development of innovative robotic products.

Since its market launch, Purple Robotics has experienced a veritable rush of authorized dealers worldwide who want to include this innovative product in their range. Just three months after the product's market launch, 40 dealers from 25 countries have signed a contract with Purple Robotics to distribute this patented innovation.

Two vacuum hands for the cobot
The double vacuum gripper from Purple Robotics gives a robot arm two "hands", enabling it to handle several objects at the same time and perform several tasks in one movement. An electric pump has also been integrated into the gripper itself, so that the user does not have to worry about hoses, compressed air and cabling, as was previously necessary with conventional solutions for vacuum grippers.

The vacuum gripper meets the global industry's need for effective and flexible robotic solutions that are quick and easy to use. A Purple Robotics gripper can be mounted on a robot ready for use in less than 30 minutes. The vacuum gripper handles objects of different sizes, weights, materials and shapes precisely and efficiently. It has a load capacity of ten kilograms and its design makes the robot gripper suitable for use in a wide range of lightweight robots from all manufacturers.

"It must be a conceivable project to also automate the production of small batches. Otherwise, the use of robot technology is not a worthwhile investment. That's why we only select the best and most user-friendly robotics products and integrate them into Onrobot. We are extremely pleased to be able to offer this innovative vacuum gripper to our robotics distributors and integrators," explains Enrico Krog Iversen, CEO of Onrobot.

Following the acquisition of Purple Robotics, the vacuum gripper will be presented in the USA at IMTS, the International Manufacturing Technology Show in Chicago, which takes place from September 10 to 15. as
