Magnetic gripper
Handling with magnet
Perforated, wavy or awkwardly shaped ferromagnetic workpieces are difficult for vacuum grippers to pick up. The MHM-X6400 magnetic grippers from SMC are ideal for this: With a magnetic holding force of up to 120 newtons, they are suitable for pick-and-place applications.
Once fixed, workpieces do not slip even when the air supply is switched off and are quickly released again at the end point. Direct contact with the workpiece is established via a fluororubber spacer ring, which is available in three different thicknesses. This allows the holding force to be gradually adjusted via the distance to the magnet and also enables the gentle transportation of sensitive goods.
The inner workings: A magnet is attached to a movable piston, which moves downwards towards the workpiece when compressed air is supplied; the workpiece is picked up in this position. The release is triggered via a second compressed air opening on the underside of the piston: Compressed air flowing in here pushes the piston and magnet upwards and releases the workpiece. The maximum residual holding force is 0.3 Newton. pb
