Wonder horse from mechanical engineering

The Spanish company Zayer likes to draw inspiration from Greek mythology when naming its machines. In the mythology of ancient Greece, Arion is an extremely fast wonder horse that could speak - and the Arion G is also supposed to be fast, dynamic and communicative. This will be presented by the German general agency Iberimex at Intec.

The machine is equipped with the patented Zayer 45-degree universal milling head as standard. The milling head can be used both in positioning mode and for simultaneous milling with continuously rotating axes. A motor spindle in the milling head allows 15,000 revolutions per minute. With a drive power of 42 kilowatts, a maximum torque of 200 Newton meters can be called up.

Mechanically driven milling heads with possible speeds of up to 6,000 revolutions are also available as an alternative. Here, the manufacturer points out the likewise patented 30-degree universal milling head, which enables undercut milling work to be carried out at a negative angle when viewed from the milling slide.

The Arion G has a rotary table with a diameter of 2,000 millimetres for turning and milling work. The rotary table is driven by a torque motor that achieves a maximum torque of 20,800 Newton meters. This powerful torque enables the user to machine workpieces weighing up to 20 tons on the Arion G.

The newly defined structure of the basic design eliminates natural vibrations, making the use of additional, complex vibration damping systems superfluous. Sensors in the linear drives automatically adapt the dynamics of the machine to the machining processes. Accelerations of up to four meters per square second and abrupt changes of direction are possible by selectively adapting each axis depending on the workload. The operator can also optimize the dynamics (speed, accuracy or performance) using special cycles.

Networking between machine, workpiece and user
With Horus, Zayer introduced a cloud-based, digital system back in 2017 that gives users control over their machinery. The Arion G is also optimized for the use of Horus. In addition to functions such as the analysis of generated machine data to monitor energy consumption or to create statistics to optimize productivity, the Arion G enables the use of a digital twin for the first time. Using big data technology, it continuously compares its actual status with the theoretical optimum data stored in the cloud and can therefore detect and report any problems that occur, such as wear or defects, while they are still invisible to the user.

Optimized ergonomics
According to the company, the Arion G has been optimized for the most user-friendly operation possible. Large sliding doors and an automatically opening and closing roof as well as the use of transparent panels in the cladding are designed to ensure a good view of the work area. The machine can also be optionally equipped with high-resolution video cameras. The control panel of the Arion G can be adjusted in both height and inclination and offers intuitive operation of the machine thanks to the large, anti-glare touch display. The manuals can be called up directly on the display of the control unit, are enriched with videos and instructions and are designed to simplify handling even for inexperienced operators. as
