Swivel rotary modules from Jung

Freedom of rotation for the grippers

Jung is expanding its product range of dynamic endless rotary axes with a series of 2-channel and/or 1-channel rotary feedthroughs for connecting pneumatic grippers and vacuum suction pads. The modules are suitable for assembly and positioning technology as well as pick-and-place applications.

The ForTorque FT01 swivel rotary modules can be used to screw on threaded covers, load workpiece carriers, feed components, move rotary indexing tables and much more. As high-torque actuators, the servo-electric multi-torque actuators from Jung cover assembly and handling tasks in the load mass range up to around 3,000 grams. They have a slim outer diameter of 40 millimeters and a weight of 560 grams and offer programmable angular accelerations of up to 14,500 degrees/square second and peak speeds of 150 rpm. As they also operate with high angular accuracy, they enable the realization of automated kinematics with dynamic and precision requirements as well as freely programmable rotation angles from 0 to infinity, the manufacturer promises.

Jung has also incorporated a miniaturized reference initiator with a standardized connector plug into the small outer diameter of the swivel rotary modules. The company now also offers the ForTorque modules with the new rotary feedthroughs, especially for fluid technology applications where compactness is important and moving connection hoses for pneumatic grippers and vacuum suction pads interfere.

Designed for pneumatics and vacuum
The new fluid rotary feedthroughs are called FlowTorque and are available in two versions. The FW01-2P version is a 2-channel version for mounting fast pneumatic grippers (up to seven bar) with the functions of closing and opening; the 1-channel FW01-IV rotary feedthrough, on the other hand, is suitable for operating vacuum suction pads (minus one to zero bar). Both FlowTorques are available for the FT01-4050 swivel rotary module (40 millimetre diameter) as well as for the slightly larger FT01-5050 with an external diameter of 50 millimetres.

Minimal friction increases service life
Thanks to the use of innovative sealing technology, the new fluid rotary feedthroughs only have a minimal frictional torque, even when subjected to full operating pressure. In contrast to similar products from the competition, a swivel rotary module with a FlowTorque rotary feedthrough therefore achieves a longer service life in dynamic continuous operation, says Jung. This gives the entire unit a longer service life, increased availability and contributes to reducing the maintenance costs of the entire kinematic system environment.

With the new fluid rotary feedthroughs, Jung is extending the operating range of the swivel rotary modules in its ForTorque series into the large field of pneumatic and vacuum technology applications. The ForTorques are already being used in various applications. Thanks to their high angular accelerations and speeds as well as the possibility of electronic torque limitation and monitoring, they are proving to be a suitable combination for the implementation of sensitive screwdriving processes, for example. They can be used to screw threaded lids with sensitive elastomer seals onto soap pouches or to automatically screw together break-sensitive plastic ballpoint pen housings.

When it comes to swiveling complex and expansive gripper systems or moving workpieces with high precision, the ForTorque offers the option of picking up larger weights and external moments of inertia and positioning them at an exact angle. The swivel rotary module can make full use of its dynamic flexibility even when overhanging components need to be moved or the load is outside the rotating axis. A ForTorquel can therefore also be used for swivel processes with eccentric payloads. as
