Afag at the Motek

Handling solutions and engineering services

At Motek, Afag will be presenting the new LTM-Horizontal transport module, among other things. The automation specialist will also be presenting its new Engineering Services division.

With new products and a new business division at Motek: With its subsidiaries TBK and TBP, the Swiss company is now also offering engineering services to support its customers. The 50 employees of the two companies develop machines, assembly and production lines as well as workstations and devices. The industry focus is on special machine construction and the machine tool, pharmaceutical, electrical engineering and automotive sectors.

The Afag subsidiaries are responsible for the complete project management of mechanical subsystems through to semi-automatic workstations, from planning and assembly to process acceptance. Production, assembly and commissioning are carried out in cooperation with partner companies in the region.

Alternative to the rotary indexing table
With the new LTM-Horizontal (Linear Transport Module), Afag has developed an assembly platform that is suitable for compact systems with high cycle outputs. At Motek, the automation specialist will be presenting the new LTM-Horizontal together with solutions from the feeding and handling product areas. The LTM-H is a space-saving alternative to the classic rotary indexing table and offers the user good accessibility.

It consists of Afag standard components. This allows the user to tailor the module precisely to their tasks. The LTM-Horizontal is not only modular and flexible in its design, but also in its drive type. The optional open motor interface allows customer-specific gearboxes, control units and motors to be fitted. These can be relatively small, as only a small mass needs to be moved - this reduces energy costs. The customer also benefits from short changeover times for the workpiece carriers.

Flexible and fast feeding solutions
The Aflex qc feeding component will be on show at Motek as part of a flexible feeding system. The Aflex qc separates all small parts on the conveyor plate with its 3D vibratory conveyor and makes them available for subsequent processes. The "qc" in the feeding component stands for "quick change" and refers to the conveyor plate, which can be changed quickly without tools. This is made from one piece and consists of a polyamide material certified by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The Aflex qc can therefore also be used for many applications with high hygiene standards, for example in medical technology or the cosmetics industry. Technical improvements to the basic device and user interface also simplify installation and commissioning.

Afag will also be showcasing its Flexspeed handling system. This works particularly quickly and precisely. It is used, for example, in the packaging industry, which places high demands on cycle times and repeat accuracy. The Flexspeed is also ideal for demanding tasks in assembly automation. The horizontal portal axis PDL40 with simple active cooling and an optimized heat sink serves as the basis. It is complemented by two vertical ES20-100-SL axes. All three are driven by a linear motor. They can perform different movements simultaneously and also assume different positions. The peak force of the portal axis is 550 Newtons, that of the vertical axes 137 Newtons. as
